Outdoor rail mounted cranes are prone to running of the end of the rails in high wind conditions. This is a reoccurring failure mode as indicated by recent reported failures.
Wind acting on the crane’s girders results in a force that causes acceleration of the crane along the rails.
Solution:
Fitment of fail-safe Storm Brakes onto the crane end carriages to prevent crane runaway or unwanted movement during storm conditions.
Outcome:
CrEng designed, provided manufacturing drawings and provided Professional Engineers Approval of a storm brake suitable for the applicable crane.
Our client successfully fabricated, installed, tested and commissioned.
